Guidelines for the approval of ITE programmes

A new Guideline for Applications is currently under development.

Requirements for ITE programmes seeking approval from 2011 onwards

From January 2011 teacher education providers will need to meet the requirements established by the Teachers Council. Providers need to meet each requirement in their documentation that they present to the Teachers Council and, in the case of the joint panels, to the New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA) for programme approval. Programme applications are also required to show how the Graduating Teacher Standards are met in the programme delivery and assessment.

External monitoring of approved ITE programmes

Every approved programme of ITE will have an external monitor appointed by the Teachers Council for the quality assurance of the on-going delivery of the programme. In the non-university sector the external monitor is contracted to NZQA which forwards the monitor's report to the Teachers Council.
