Requirement for Police Clearances

New Zealand Police Clearances

Section 124B of the Education Act 1989 requires the Teachers Council to obtain a police vet prior to issuing a practising certificate or Limited Authority to Teach.  On completion of the Consent to Disclosure of Information section of the TC1, TC3, TC4 or TC0 application form, the Council requests information directly from the New Zealand Police Vetting and Validation Service.

Overseas Police Clearances

If you are an applicant who has lived for a period of 12 months or more in any country other than New Zealand within the last 10 years, you are required to obtain a national police clearance certificate from that country.  This police clearance must cover the entire period of time you lived in that country.  If you have a police clearance issued within 6 months of the date you left the country this can be considered.
