New Zealand Teacher Registration Application Forms

All application forms must be:

  • The current version from the web site.
  • Accompanied by the application processing fee that will apply on the date the application is received at the New Zealand Teachers Council. 
  • Accompanied by any other supporting information indicated on the form or completion guide information.

The application processing fee is non-refundable so it is important that you ensure you are eligible to apply.

Application form and guide for Overseas Applicants - TC0

             Use this form and guide to apply for teacher registration if you have:

  • completed your teacher education programme outside new Zealand and;
  • you have not been previously registered in New Zealand; or

  • you have current registration or membership with one of the Australian states included in the Trans-Tasman Mutual Recognition Agreement, and you are eligible to apply for registration under the Agreement

The application processing fee is $302.57 including GST of 15%.

Application form and guide for Registration - TC1

             Use this form and guide if you:

  • are a newly qualified teacher after having completed an approved teacher education programme in New Zealand; or
  • held Full registration and you do not currently meet the criteria to maintain Full registration and renew your practising certificate; or
  • your last practising certificate was issued in the category of Subject to Confirmation (STC); or
  • your last practising certificate was issued in the category of Provisional (PROV).

The application processing fee is $220.80 including GST of 15%

Application form and guide for Full Registration - TC2 

Use this form to apply for full registration if you:

  • hold Provisional (PROV) registration and you have completed the requirements to gain Full registration; or
  • hold Subject to Confirmation (STC) and you have completed the requirements to gain Full registration.

You must hold a current practising certificate to be eligible to apply for Full registration. The TC2 application form allows only for a change of category to be considered. It does not affect the expiry date of your 3 year practising certificate.

If your current practising certificate is due to expire in 2 months or less, you will also need to submit a completed TC1 application form.

The application processing fee is $81.77 including GST of 15%.

Application form and guide for Practising Certificate Renewal - TC3

Use this form if you hold full registration and you:

  • gained Full registration in the last three years; or
  • have completed two years of teaching service (in minimum blocks of 10 weeks at a time) in New Zealand in the last five years. You must be employed within the general education system or in a setting approved by the Teachers Council for maintaining Full registration. Day to day relief does not count as part of this service requirement

The application processing fee is $220.80 including GST of 15%.

Application form and guide for Limited Authority to Teach - TC4

Use this form if you are:

  • not eligible for registration as a teacher in New Zealand but have been offered a teaching position to teach a specific subject, in a specific school for a specific time period.

The application processing fees are:

  • for up to a 1 year LAT
    •  $56.22 including GST of 15%.
  • for up to a 2 year LAT*
    • $112.44 including GST of 15%.
  • for up to a 3 year LAT*
    • $168.66 including GST of 15%.

* Specific criteria needs to be meet. See the Limited Authority to Teach policy.

PDF Allows you to print the application forms from any machine on any platform - Mac or PC but requires Adobe Acrobat to be on your computer.
