Achieving Full registration
- To move from provisional registration to full registration the teacher must:
- Complete a total of 2 years supervised teaching following the gaining of an approved teacher education qualification. The teaching does not have to be only at one learning centre but must be in minimum blocks of 10 weeks in an approved setting.
- Have a teaching load of a minimum of 12.5 hours per week.
- Be employed as a teacher - not a teacher aide or a volunteer worker - in the general education system or in institutions approved by the NZ Teachers Council.
- Participate in an advice and guidance programme for the two year period, which includes a structured programme in the first year and continuing supervision by a fully registered teacher throughout the second and subsequent years. Evidence of this programme may be requested by the Teachers Council. It is the responsibility of the provisionally registered teacher to keep all evidence of their advice and guidance programme.
- Meet the 'satisfactory teacher' criteria laid down by the NZ Teachers Council.
- Be recommended for full registration by the professional leader of the learning centre which is employing the teacher. (The NZ Teachers Council will not accept a recommendation unless it is made or supported by a teacher with current full registration.)
- Possess a current practising certificate.
- To move from Subject To Confirmation (STC) registration to full registration the teacher must:
- Be employed as a teacher - not a teacher aide or a volunteer worker - in the general education system or in institutions approved by the Teachers Council.
- Meet the 'satisfactory teacher' criteria laid down by the Teachers Council.
- Be up to date in current curricula and procedures in the general education system
- possess a current practising certificate. and
either:
- Be recommended for full registration by the professional leader of the learning centre which is employing the teacher provided a minimum of 3 months supervised teaching has passed since STC registration was obtained. (The Teachers Council ,will not accept a recommendation unless it is made or supported by a teacher with current full registration. There are no minimum weekly teaching hours) OR
- a period of twelve months has passed since STC registration was obtained and with a recommendation for full registration from a professional leader and supervising teacher.
Note: There is an non-refundable $80 fee relating to the application for full registration from the above category.
