Standards for Teaching: Theoretical Underpinnings and Applications

This critical review of literature examines theoretical underpinning and applications of standards to the professional practice of teaching. It provides an analysis of national and international literature concerning models of professional standards for teachers. The analysis describes and evaluates models of professional standards, as found in the literature, and their application to the professional practice of teaching. The review covers standards related to entry into, and graduation from, initial teacher education, the early stages of teaching, continuing teacher education, and career development.
