Proposed New Zealand Teachers Council (Impairment Process) Rules 2008

On 30 October 2008, the New Zealand Teachers Council (the Council) approved the proposed New Zealand Teachers Council (Impairment Process) Rules 2008.

These rules will provide the Council and the Complaints Assessment Committee with the opportunity to refer a teacher to an impairment committee. This committee will assess a teacher's possible impairment and report back to the referring body.

The Council is required to consult with interested parties on the implementation of the proposed rules. Any person may make a submission on the proposed rules. Submissions must be received at the Council by 17 December 2008.

Every submission must:

(a) be typed; and
(b) give the name, address, and telephone number of the individual or organisation making the submission.

If the submission is made by an organisation it must be signed by a person on behalf of the organisation, and the person must certify that:

(a) the submission reflects the views of the organisation; and
(b) the person signing is authorised to do so.

Please ensure that submissions comply with the above requirements.

A summary of all submissions received will be placed on the Council's website following the closing date, and this will identify the organisation that made the submission.

The proposed rules are available be clicking the link(s) below
