New Zealand Teachers Council Rules
The New Zealand Teachers Council has published the following Rules:

Under section 139AD of the Education Act 1989, 4 members must be elected to the New Zealand Teachers Council to represent the early childhood sector, the primary sector, the secondary sector, and principals. These rules, which come into force on the day after the date of their notification in the Gazette, set out the rules that apply to those elections.
Elections must be held every 3 years, and there is provision for an extraordinary election to be held if the seat of an elected member becomes vacant before that member's 3-year term expires.
Whenever an election is to be held, the Teachers Council must appoint a returning officer. That returning officer will be responsible for preparing the roll, giving notice of the election, notifying the list of candidates, preparing and issuing the voting documents, and counting the votes.

These rules, which come into force on 1 September 2004, set out the procedure, particularly as regards consultation, to be adopted by the New Zealand Teachers Council when it amends or replaces rules made under section 139AJ of the Education Act 1989.

These rules:
- identify the criteria for reporting serious misconduct and for
reporting competence issues;
- give the general requirements for making reports and complaints
about teachers under the Education Act 1989;
- give specific requirements about what information must be
included in specific types of reports and complaints under that
Act.
These Rules come into force on 1 September 2004.

These rules, which come into force on 1 November 2007, set out the procedures that the New Zealand Teachers Council must follow in dealing with reports and complaints about the competence of individual teachers. These rules, which come into force on 1 September 2004, set out the procedures that the New Zealand Teachers Council must follow in dealing with reports and complaints about teacher conduct, including reports and complaints about possible serious misconduct and about convictions.
