The Complaints Assessment Committee
The Complaints Assessment Committee (CAC) is a disciplinary body that considers:
- mandatory reports about conduct made by teachers' employers;
- notifications of convictions of registered teachers that meet the threshold; and
- complaints from members of the public about teachers' conduct.
The mandatory report or complaint must be made to the New Zealand Teachers Council in writing. This is then referred to a CAC for investigation.

Convictions
The CAC must consider any conviction held by a currently or formerly registered teacher in New Zealand that has a possible sentence of 3 months or more imprisonment, regardless of the actual sentence imposed.
